During our first annual meeting in Lisbon the GlyCoCan participants had the opportunity to give each other as well as our project officer an update on the overall project progress. Next to the progress reports by the work package leaders, our 13 early stage researchers (ESRs) gave scientific presentations on their PhD projects and, thus, provided an optimal basis for knowledge exchange and fruitful discussions.
Part of the program was open to the public. Experts from the field gave an insight into cutting-edge glycomic technology and recent advances in cancer glycobiology and clinical implications.
Moreover, the ESRs were given the opportunity to get to know each other and reflect on their strengths and complementarities as a team of young researchers during the one-day workshop ‘Talent Dynamics’ provided by Helen Williamson (HORIZONS UNLEASHED LTD).
Highlights within the social programme were the performance of the Campus Orchestra at our informal get-together as well as the dinner on the terrace of Casa da Cerca with a picturesque view over the city of Lisbon and the 25 de Abril bridge.
The second annual meeting will take place in March 2018 in the Netherlands.
